Keiko Koshimitsu Solo Exhibition “Information Visualization”
Foreword by the Artist

My solo exhibition held at a gallery in New York in 2005 received a review titled “Koshimitsu’s works as an art that raises questions and requires viewers to think (by Gen Hikage / Artist)”.The fundamental intention indeed is my desire to motivate the viewers to possess time to rethink their position as a member of society in a global scale.

The main exhibition “Nuclear Series” visualizes the operating ratio of Tokai Nuclear Plant randomly sampled during a certain time period -- without alteration of factual data. This Series was again introduced at the BronxArt Museum as an artwork that raises questions about existing social problems.

Unaltered raw data distant from the artist are also restored and portrayed in other works on exhibition. For instance, quantity of annual carbon dioxide discharge by country which is blamed as the primary cause of global warming, and shift in the earth’s surface temperature as measured every September are visually represented.

The “Modification Series”, revolved around and finally span out of aforementioned artworks, is positioned as the artist’s “clue” being delivered to the viewers. In addition, the “Time Series” illustrates deep human mentality which generates these factual data -- the basis of this exhibition.I trust the separately attached announcement explain this point

Borrowing a phrase by the artist Mr. Kenji Kojima, if I describe this new way of thinking, it will be ”By setting a path in remote factual data, I attempt to arrive at different means of visualization and communication based upon that data”.

At this moment here in New York, I am hoping to get in touch with artists who share the same vision and attitude, so that we can assemble and dispatch a new “ism” to the world.Any artists and sponsors who are in approval and supportive of my intention are kindly requested to contact me. I appreciate your interest and support.

Finally I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to Mr. Terrence A. Oved, Esq. who provided a wonderful gallery space, and Mr. Tsutomu Miyazaki, Chairman of Hammond Art Museum who made extra efforts to make this exhibition possible.
